Narayanganj auto-rickshaw drivers launched an armed attack on city corporation traffic management personnel and left 10 injured at Nitaiganj area of the town on Monday afternoon.

Prior to the attack, they were protesting in front of city corporation's office demanding rights to move without authorisation.
The injured traffic management workers said that they were carrying out regular duties on the road when some auto drivers attacked and started beating them.

For saving their lives, they entered city corporation's building and the drivers followed them over with sharp arms, sticks and iron rods.

Confirming the matter, Narayanganj City Corporation Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zakir Hossain said that the drivers attacked our officers, employees, and student representatives engaged in traffic management.

Several injured are in critical condition and sent to Narayanganj Victoria General Hospital. Legal action will be taken against those involved in this attack, the CEO added.

It is noteworthy that Narayanganj City Corporation introduced a licensing system to regulate unauthorised auto-rickshaws in the city.

This initiative aims to curb passenger harassment, overcharging, and traffic congestion caused by these vehicles.

However, the unregistered auto-rickshaw drivers are demanding to move in the city without registration as they did previously.
