Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has stated that the families of those killed in recent mass movements are not seeking financial compensation, but justice.
"We have met with the families of the martyrs multiple times. They are not asking for money-they want justice. They demand exemplary punishment for the fascists and their accomplices," Dr. Rahman said while addressing a midnight rally at the Moghbazar intersection in Dhaka on May 10.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Jamaat chief emphasised that while the ban on the Awami League was a step in the right direction, it was not the final goal. "The July Revolution has yet to be fully recognised. The formal proclamation remains pending. However, we will move forward with patience, guided by the spirit of the revolution, to protect the country's independence, sovereignty, and the welfare of its people," he said.
Dr. Rahman called on citizens across political lines to remain united in sustaining the momentum of the student-led mass movement that toppled the previous regime. "This interim government is the outcome of a historic uprising. The people demand justice-not a rebranded version of authoritarianism," he added.
The rally was presided over by Jamaat's Dhaka North City unit Ameer Mohammad Selim Uddin and conducted by South City unit secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud. Several senior leaders from both city units were also present.
Earlier in the day, Jamaat's Dhaka North unit held a protest march at Bangla Motor, reiterating their demand for a formal ban on the Awami League and the prosecution of its leaders. The demonstrators expressed solidarity with the ongoing Shahbagh movement and pledged to continue their push for the full realisation of the goals of the July Revolution.
