Local leaders and activists of Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) have reportedly taken control of a three-story office building of Awami League (AL) in Bhola's Char Fasson upazila, declaring it their own party office following the recent ban on political activities.
On Saturday afternoon, NCP members, led by a local figure identifying himself as Ohid Faisal, replaced the signage of the AL office on College Road in Char Fasson municipal area with that of the NCP, effectively launching their political activities from the premises.
The development has sparked a flurry of reactions and debates across social media platforms.
Sources said the office had been abandoned since it was ransacked and partially burned down during intense protests in the wake of the fall of AL government. The furniture and other materials were looted during the unrest, leaving the building unused for several months.
Nine months after the change in government, NCP activists have taken control of the premises, claiming the office will now serve as local headquarters for the party.
Ohid Faisal, identifying himself as the Char Fasson representative of NCP, allegedly led the occupation with support from local party figures Amjat Habib, Nure Alam Nasim, Sharif Hossain, and Md. Shahabuddin.
On-site reports confirm that NCP has installed a prominently displayed signboard and set up loudspeakers on the rooftop, broadcasting party messages and slogans.
Speaking to reporters, Ohid Faisal said, "We have taken over this building to operate the official activities of NCP in the upazila. From now on, all organizational work of the party in this region will be conducted from here."
The symbolic takeover comes in the backdrop of increasing political shifts in Bangladesh following the AL’s ban under recent amendments to anti-terrorism laws. The dramatic move by NCP in Char Fasson marks a new chapter in the country's evolving political landscape.
