Police arrested two leaders of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) along with arms from Chattogram's Patiya and Boalkhali upazilas early Sunday.
The arrested were identified as M Gias Uddin Shabbir, 31, son of Absar Ali, a resident of Hulain village in the upazila, and Basirul Haque Shahin, 23, son of late Abul Hossain, a resident of Chatra village of Boalkhali upazila in the district.
Shabbir is the president of Patiya Government College unit BCL and Shahin is an activist of Patiya municipality unit BCL.
Confirming the matter, Patiya Police Station office-in-charge Jayed Nur said that separate teams of police from Patiya Police Station and Boalkhali Police Station, conducted drives in the villages and arrested the duo.
Police also recovered a single-barrel gun, 3 bullets, 4 pistol bullets, a iron sheet, 2 knives, and 3 mobile phones from their possessions.
Legal process was underway in this connection, the OC added.
