Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organiser of Jatiya Nagarik Party (NCP) southern region, called for nationwide mass gatherings on Saturday, demanding a ban on the Awami League.

He announced this plan on Friday night in Shahbag.

"We will hold mass gatherings in all the places across Bangladesh where public gatherings have occurred," Abdullah said.

"Our sit-in protest continues; it has been 25 hours. We started our sit-in protest last night at 10 PM. We do not know where this protest will end. Our sit-in protest will continue until the Awami League is banned," he added.

"We have already presented three demands. The first demand is to declare Awami League a terrorist organisation and ban all its affiliated organisations.

The second demand is to arrange for the collective trial of the Awami League under International Crimes Tribunal Act. The third demand is to issue the July Declaration," Hasnat explained.
