A Jagannath University (JnU) student has been placed on a three-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, over alleged involvement in anti-state activities and suspected links with the banned extremist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.

Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court granted the remand on Thursday after Md Shahinur Rahman, Sub-Inspector of the Counter Terrorism Investigation Department (CTID), submitted a 10-day remand plea seeking further interrogation.

The accused, Mizanur Rahman, is a student of the Statistics Department from the university's 2021-22 academic session. He was reportedly picked up late on May 7 from a mess in the Narinda area under Gendaria Police Station by men in police uniform.

Following his sudden disappearance, Mizanur's family and university authorities searched nearby police stations but found no trace of him. Days later, it was disclosed that he had been shown arrested in a case filed on March 21 with Dhanmondi Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

According to the case dossier, Mizanur is accused of long-term involvement with Hizb ut-Tahrir, including recruiting members, promoting the group's ideology, and disseminating anti-state propaganda. Law enforcement officials claim he was actively involved in organizing events such as "Come Out for Save Gaza" and "Protest Rally," which they allege were used to incite unrest.
