A man died after being crushed under the wheels of a truck at Melandah upazila in Jamalpur district on Friday.
The incident occurred around 6 PM on the Jamalpur-Dewanganj highway at Kangalkursha area in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Aziz, 55, son of Janti Sheikh, a resident of Charputimari Agrarakhali area of Islampur upazila.
According to locals, Aziz with his son, Ali Hossain and daughter, Aleya Akter were travelling to Melandah Bazar on a motorcycle.
When they reached Kangalkursha area a truck from behind hit them and Aziz, sitting behind was crushed under the wheels of the truck on the spot. Ali and Aleya, somehow, survived but sustained serious injuries.
Later, locals rescued the injured and took them to Melandah Upazila Health Complex while undergoing treatment. The driver, somehow, managed to flee the scene after leaving the vehicle.
Upon receiving the news, police recovered the body of the deceased and seized the truck.
Confirming the matter, Melandah Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Shafiqul Islam said The truck has been seized and the body will be handed over following legal procedures.
