Divisional Women's Football C'ship

Amputee exhibition match held in Sreemangal

With the goal of promoting gender equality and an inclusive society through sports, the Divisional Women's Football Championship and a Women's Amputee Exhibition Match were held in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar.

The event took place on Thursday afternoon at the Satgaon Tea Garden Field, organised by Sports for Hope and Independence (SHI). The central theme of the event was: "Break Barriers, Create New Paths: Sports as a Tool for Empowerment."

Six football academies, approved by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), participated in the championship. Among them, Bhairabganj Football Academy of Sreemangal and Ragib Rabeya Bangladesh Sports Academy of Sylhet qualified for the final. In the final match held that afternoon, Ragib Rabeya Bangladesh Sports Academy defeated Bhairabganj Football Academy with a 2-0 victory. Shibani Kurmi was named Player of the Match, Sworna Munda received the Player of the Series award, and Sonali Munda was recognised as the Best Goalkeeper.

Immediately following the final, a Women's Amputee Exhibition Match was held to mark the conclusion of a week-long amputee football camp. Two teams, the Blue and the Red teams, competed in a spirited match that drew enthusiastic responses from the audience. The Red Team won the match 1-0, with Mosammat Rojoni Khatun earning the Player of the Match title.

Nicolas Fleury, Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), attended as the chief guest, along with Sharmin Farhana Chowdhury, Founder and CEO of SHI. Other notable attendees included Pappu Modak, General Secretary of SHI, and Jhinuk Baidya, In-charge of SHI Sreemangal.

The event aimed to honour the skills, courage, and leadership of female athletes, especially those with disabilities, by providing an inclusive platform for their participation in sports. The programme was jointly supported by the Chowdhury Welfare Trust and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
