PIROJPUR, May 9: A district court pronounced 10-year rigorous imprisonment to two drug dealers on charge of drug trade on Thursday.
They were fined Tk 20,000 each, and if they fail, they will suffer three more months in jail.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Muktadir Alam pronounced the verdict at noon.
The convicts are Arafat Al Ahsan, 42, alias Riad Talukder, son of Nazmul Ahsan Khasru Talukder of Putikhali Village in Rajapur Upazila in Jhalokhati District and Md Iqbal Mollick, 32, son of Rustom Mollick of Luxmipura Village in Bhandaria Upazila.
Court sources said, on October 29, 2014 police of Bhandaria Police Station (PS) recovered 329 pieces of yaba tablets along with the drug accused from a reserved pond area in Bhandaria town.
Investigation Officer of the case Sub-Inspector Nur Amin filed the case accusing eight drug dealers. Police produced a charge-sheet on November 30, 2014.
Additional Public Prosecutor Md Wahid Hasan Babu conducted the case on behalf of the state while defence lawyer was Advocate Ahsanul Kabir Badal.
