SIRAJGANJ, May 9: Two men died and another felt sick after consuming alcohol purchased from a homeopathic store in Belkuchi Upazila of the district on Wednesday night.
The deceased were identified as Abdur Kalam, 45, son of Sattar Ali of Daulatpur Uttarpara Village, and Shah Alam, 43, son of Abdul Kuddus, a resident of Daulatpur Moti Market area in Belkuchi Upazila.
Abu Hanif, another individual who consumed the alcohol, is currently admitted to Sirajganj General Hospital.
According to local sources, the three individuals became ill after drinking the alcohol they bought on Wednesday from the homeopathic store owned by one Mozzammel Haque Babu at Kandapara Bazar in the upazila.
Later on, they were rescued in critical condition and taken to Sirajganj General Hospital, where Kalam and Shah Alam died at night while undergoing treatment.
Following a complaint in this connection, the law enforcers detained the son of the homeopathic store owner for questioning.
Officer-in-Charge of Belkuchi Police Station Zakaria Hossain confirmed the matter, saying that police are trying to detain the homeopathic store owner Mozzammel Haque Babu.
