A Dhaka court has granted police a three-day remand for Faria Haque Tina, one of the accused in the killing of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student at Primeasia University.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam issued the remand order on Friday after Tina was produced in court. Police had sought a five-day remand for further interrogation.
Tina was arrested on May 8 from the Jagannathpur area under the jurisdiction of Bhatara Police Station.
The incident occurred on April 19, when Zahidul Islam Parvez, a third-year student of the Textile Engineering Department, and his friend Md Tariqul Islam were brutally attacked with sharp weapons by a group of assailants in front of the university in Dhaka's Banani area.
Parvez, critically injured in the attack, was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Following the murder, Parvez’s cousin Humayun Kabir filed a case with Banani Police Station on April 20. The case named eight individuals directly and accused 25 to 30 people in total of involvement in the fatal assault.
