PABNA, May 6: A tall mahogany tree was split into two after being struck by lightning on Tuesday morning on the campus of Pabna Government Edward College, near the Science Building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The incident occurred around 9:45 am during a brief spell of light rain.
Toufiq Imam, a second-year Physics student and eyewitness, said, "There was a sudden loud thunderclap, and the tree split before our eyes. We immediately rushed to safety as the lightning struck."
After the rain, teachers, students, and local residents gathered to witness the damaged tree.
Professor Md Abdullah Al Mamun of the college's Physics Department shared, "We were in the office while some students were on the balcony. A bright flash and loud noise startled us, and we saw a large branch breaking off. The lightning split the tree down the middle. Thankfully, no one was hurt."
Authorities confirmed that while the lightning caused visible damage to the tree, there was no further harm to campus property or individuals.
