PABNA, May 2: The 64th founding day of Pabna Press Club (PPC) was celebrated in a festive atmosphere with various events including cake cutting, procession, discussion meeting, and presentation of honorary mementos on Thursday.
A colourful rally was brought out from the press club premises at 10:30 am. The rally returned to the club premises via Abdul Hamid Road and ended at the Roy Bahadur Gate.
Later on, an exchange of greetings and sweet distribution were arranged with the members of the club, local media workers, and representatives of civil society.
In the beginning, the welcome speech was delivered by PPC General Secretary Zahurul Islam. The function began with recitation from the Quran.
One minute's silence was observed to pay tribute to the souls of martyrs of the Liberation War and the 24th mass uprising and the departed members of the club.
Presidents and GSs who served from the establishment of the PPC were awarded honorary crests. The newly elected executive committee of the press club was also welcomed with flowers.
As guest of honour Vice-Chancellor of the Pabna University of Science and Technology Professor Dr S M Abdul Awal delivered his speech at the meeting held in the PPC under the chairmanship of President Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar.
DC Mohammad Mofizul Islam, former president of the PPC Professor Shibjit Nag, Pabna Zonal Settlement Officer Afroza Akhtar, Additional DC Sarbik Jahangir Alam, Additional Superintendent of Police Mashiur Rahman Mondal, Deputy Director of National Intelligence Service (NSI)-Pabna Taufiq Iqbal, former president of the PPC ABM Fazlur Rahman, President of Pabna Newspaper Council Abdul Matin Khan, and Senior Vice-President of the PPC Sifat Rahman Sanam were also present.
Journalists working in electronic, print, and online media in all upazilas of Pabna were also present there.
The journey of Pabna Press Club began on May 1, 1961.
