Dr. Md. Hazrat Ali, a professor from Department of Civil Engineering at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), has been appointed as acting Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET).
A notification in this regard was issued on Thursday by the Scholarships and Engineering Branch of Secondary and Higher Education Division under Ministry of Education.
With the approval of the President and Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Hazrat Ali has been appointed on an interim basis under sections 10(1) and 10(3) of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Act, 2003, until a full-time Vice-Chancellor is appointed.
During his tenure, he will receive the same salary and allowances as his current position along with other applicable benefits according to regulations. He is required to stay full-time on the university campus as institution’s chief executive officer.
The Ministry of Education has also stated that the President and Chancellor reserves the right to revoke this appointment at any time if deemed necessary.
It is worth mentioning that following a attack on campus on February 18, students of KUET demanded the resignation of Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and the Director of Student Welfare (DSW). After more than two months of continuous protests, including hunger strikes, Ministry of Education issued a notification on April 25 removing both Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor from their positions.
