BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia may return to Bangladesh in the first week of May as her health condition has improved.
According to party sources, if all goes as planned, the former Prime Minister will arrive on May 4 or 5, accompanied by her two daughters-in-law-Dr. Jobaida Rahman, wife of BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman, and Syeda Sharmila Rahman, wife of the late Arafat Rahman Koko.
Md. Touhid Hossain, Foreign Affairs Advisor to the interim government, informed reporters that BNP requested assistance in arranging a special air ambulance. In response, the Foreign Ministry is now preparing an air ambulance from Qatar.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir formally appealed to the Foreign Affairs Advisor to secure an air ambulance for Khaleda Zia's return from London.
The letter stated that Khaleda Zia is currently in London for medical treatment. While her condition is stable, doctors have advised that she should travel via a special air ambulance due to health concerns.
BNP Standing Committee members acknowledged that the exact return date remains uncertain, as it depends on government arrangements.
Currently, Khaleda Zia is staying at the London residence of her son, BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman, receiving daily medical care from visiting doctors. Though her health has improved, her return is contingent on medical clearance.
BNP Standing Committee Member and her personal physician, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, told the media, "Madam Khaleda Zia will return as soon as possible. Both of us are fully prepared. We will depart as soon as doctors grant final approval."
