Mobile Number portability (MNP) service provider Infozillion Teletech BD believes that removing taxes on SIMs and making Mobile Number Portability (MNP) services more accessible will increase both revenue and customer service.
The service provider, which is approved with a flat licence fee, claims that the regulatory body Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is responsible for removing the policy barriers to the adoption of the service at the consumer level.
According to the company, doing so will create a competitive market and ensure user freedom. They said to make masking mandatory for OTP (One Time Password) security, it is necessary to lift the MNP obligation. This will make it possible to introduce masking for on-net as well as off-net SMS.
Infozillion recommends that if the A2P (stands for Application-to-Person messaging) policy is clearly defined through the guidelines and implemented through the International Internet Gateway (IIG), it is possible to increase revenue from international SMS.
In addition, the MNP requirement should be lifted to make masking mandatory for the security of OTP. If this is done, it will be easier to mask off-net as well as on-net.
This information came out at a workshop on challenges and opportunities in mobile number portability MNP services held at the Raowa Complex in the capital on Tuesday.
The workshop organized by Telecom and Technology Reporter's Network, Bangladesh (TRNB) was welcomed by the organization's General Secretary Masuduzzaman Robin and chaired by Samir Kumar Dey.
Infozillion's Managing Director Mabroor Hossain said at the workshop that they did this project with 50 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI). That is why they are now working to ensure customer freedom. But this freedom is being curtailed in various ways.
But if MNP can be implemented properly, government revenue will increase indirectly. Customers will also get the best service. This will bring more foreign investment to the country, he added.
