Two people including a woman were murdered in separate incidents in two districts - Noakhali and Kushtia.
NOAKHALI: A youth was shot to death by assailants in Begumganj Upazila of the district Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Shakil, 28, son of Md Solaiman Khokon of Gangabar Bazar area under Chayani Union in the upazila. He worked as an aluminium technician.
According to locals, Shakil with others was having tea at a shop at a local market at around 8 pm when five armed terrorists arrived in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw. The miscreants attempted to abduct a youth, named Labib.
After being barred from Shakil and others, the miscreants left the scene but returned shortly afterward and opened fire, which left Shakil seriously wounded.
Shakil's younger brother Shuvo was also seriously injured at that time.
Locals rushed both brothers to Noakhali General Hospital, where the on-duty physicians declared Shakil dead.
However, locals detained three of the attackers and handed them over to police.
Begumganj Model Police Station (PS) Inspector (Investigation) Md Habibur Rahman said that police were deployed in the and brought the situation under control.
DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: A woman was hacked to death by her nephew over a land dispute in Daulatpur Upazila of the district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Mahfuza Khatun, 60, wife of Nazir Uddin, a resident of Goborgara Village in the upazila.
It was known that Abdul Alim, 25, had a land dispute with his paternal uncle Nazir Uddin. On Monday, he was locked into an altercation with his aunt Mahfuza Khatun. At one stage, Alim started hacking her with an axe, leaving her seriously injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and rushed to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
A murder case was filed with Daulatpur PS in this connection.
