PANCHAGARH, Apr 30: To observe Global Action Week on Education, a discussion meeting was held on Tuesday at the Hunger Free World Office hallroom in Boda Upazila of the district.

The event was jointly organized by Alokito Bangladesh Foundation in collaboration with Mass Literacy Campaign.

The discussion, titled "Global Action Week on Education", was chaired by Md. Maleka Begum, Programme Officer of Hunger Free World. Md. Shahriar Nazir, Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) of Boda, attended the event as the chief guest.

Other notable guests included Md. Awlad Hossain, Upazila Youth Development Officer, and Taukir Ahmed, Upazila Social Service Officer. Also present were Md. Azgar Ali Harun, President of Primary Teachers Association; Md. Harun Or Rashid, Executive Director of Rural Literature Association; Md. Mizanur Rahman, Executive Director of SVD Association; and Md. Faridul Islam, Assistant Officer of Youth Development Department.

More than 100 participants from various professions, including school management committee members, women leaders, journalists, teachers, NGO representatives, public representatives, civil society members, and students, attended the event.
In his remarks, the chief guest emphasised the importance of education as a life-long need, particularly during the time of crisis.

"We must ensure quality education and work towards the implementation of the SDGs. No obstacle should stop education. Even during the pandemic, students continued their studies online and at home. This is what education in crisis looks like," he said.

Addressing students, he cautioned against early marriage and encouraged them to continue their education for a better future.
During the open discussion session, participants raised several important recommendations including increase focus on parent-teacher engagement in primary schools, preventing students from engaging in household work during school hours, and continuing and improving mid-day meals with added nutritional value.

The event also featured the distribution of Hero Women Scholarships to 50 underprivileged but meritorious students. Students at the school level received Tk 1,200 each while college and university students received Tk 1,500.

The meeting was moderated by Anil Chandra Sharma, a representative of Alokito Bangladesh Foundation.
