FENI, Apr 30: "When malaise and exaggerated news is presented to create sensation, it is called yellow journalism," said Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) Chairman Justice AKM Abdul Hakim at a training workshop for journalists, which was held on Monday at the Feni Circuit House.

Addressing print and electronic media professionals as the chief guest, Justice Hakim urged all journalists to uphold integrity and avoid sensationalism, which he said had seen a rise in recent years.

"The trend of yellow journalism has somewhat declined compared to the past, but it still persists. Journalists must focus on truth and facts," he emphasised.

The event was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner Romen Sharma, with District Information Officer Alamin delivering the welcome speech. Additional Police Superintendent Saiful Islam also spoke as a special guest.

Md Abdus Sabur, Deputy Secretary of the BPC, served as the resource person, highlighting the importance of adhering to the Press Council's Code of Conduct.

Justice Hakim reiterated that journalists serve as spokespersons of the people and play a vital role in nation-building through truthful reporting.

He noted that similar initiatives are being implemented nationwide for the welfare and ethical development of journalists, including provisions for electronic media.
