An elderly man died by suicide after slitting his own throat with a sharp knife at Patuakhali’s Mirzaganj upazila on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 12:00 PM inside of his youngest son’s residence at the area.
The deceased was identified as Mohabbat Ali, 80, a residents of Kakrabunia village in the upazila.
According to locals, Mohabbat Ali was in his youngest son Zakir Hossain's house when he used a sharp knife to cut his own throat.
Later, locals rescued and took him to Mirzaganj Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctor referred him to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for advanced treatment.
However, he passed away in the ambulance on the way to Barishal.
Confirming the matter, Mirzaganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Shamim Howladar said that police visited the scene upon receiving the news.
Legal procedures regarding the body are underway, the OC added.
