China has shown interest in generating electricity from waste management in city corporation areas of Bangladesh.

Yao Wen, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, expressed China’s interest in this initiative during a meeting with Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser to Interim Government’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.
Adviser Asif Mahmud warmly welcomed Chinese Ambassador, stating that China has been a long-time development and business partner of Bangladesh.

He mentioned that China’s announcement to build a 1,000-bed hospital in Bangladesh on the occasion of 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries has created great public interest.

Asif Mahmud also referred to the recent joint Bangladesh-China drone show, watched by millions across the country, as a significant event for cultural exchange between the two nations.

Emphasizing the importance of electricity generation through waste management, the adviser said the government is interested in implementing such initiatives in all city corporations with China’s support.

In response, Chinese Ambassador said that China is keen on working with waste management in city corporation areas.

He noted that China plans to undertake projects aimed at generating electricity from waste in all city corporations gradually.

Focusing on the development of country’s sports sector, the adviser said that Bangladesh currently has 55 sports federations. Apart from cricket and football, other sports in Bangladesh also have the potential to grow and achieve international success.

Asif Mahmud emphasized building a sports ecosystem with Chinese cooperation and establishing Olympic-standard training for coaches and athletes.

Expressing enthusiasm over the discussion on sports, Chinese Ambassador announced that China will send a team to Bangladesh to play a match against Bangladesh women's football team, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and friendship.

He also expressed interest in inviting Bangladesh national cricket team to China for a friendly match.

Additionally, the ambassador assured that China would provide advanced training opportunities for Bangladeshi athletes and coaches at any level.

During the discussion, the ambassador invited the sports adviser to visit China's Sports Village after knowing about the adviser’s long-term sports development plans.
