Court sentenced one person to death and another to life imprisonment in a tailor murder case at Harirampur upazila in Manikganj district.
The verdict was announced around 12 PM on Wednesday by Sabina Yasmin, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Manikganj Court.
The condemned individual was Md Parvez Hossain alias Sumon Sheikh, a resident of Dakshinkhanpur village in Shibaloy Upazila, who received death penalty along with a fine of Tk 50,000.
In default of payment, he will have to serve an additional two years of imprisonment.
The other accused, Alim, was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Tk 30,000. Failing to pay will result in an additional two years of imprisonment.
According to case details, Billal was returning home on his bicycle from Machain Bazar after work on night November 2, 2016.
On his way, Parvez, Alim, and several others surrounded him and hacked him to death with sharp weapons. After the murder, Billal's body was thrown into the Ichamati River canal.
Following the incident, the deceased's wife, Afroza Begum filed a murder case with Harirampur Police Station. After the testimony of 22 witnesses, the verdict was delivered eight years after the crime.
