Farmer dies in Kushtia lightning strike

A farmer died after being struck by lightning in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 12:15 PM at Sultan village under Kaya union, approximately 100 meters from his home near the Padma River.
According to police and locals, the Padma River had dried up in the area, creating a char (river island) where Johurul had cultivated paddy. On Wednesday morning, he had harvested ripe paddy and left it there. As rain started in the afternoon, he went back with a polythene sheet to cover the harvested crop. While doing so, he was struck by lightning and died on the spot.
