The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has officially granted operating licenses to Starlink Services Bangladesh Limited, allowing the company to offer satellite-based internet services through non-geostationary satellite orbit (NGSO) systems in the country.
The license handover ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon at BTRC headquarters in Dhaka's Agargaon, according to a press release.
BTRC issued two separate licenses to Starlink—the Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit (NGSO) Operator License and the Radio Communication Apparatus License—paving the way for enhanced satellite connectivity in Bangladesh. The licenses are valid for a period of 10 years, following prior approval from the government.
The NGSO Operator License, issued by BTRC’s Licensing Division, authorizes Starlink to commence commercial internet services in Bangladesh using its low-Earth orbit satellite network. The Radio Communication Apparatus License, granted by the Spectrum Division, permits the company to use specific radio frequencies and import necessary communication equipment.
Lt Col Syed Md Tawfiqul Islam, Director of the Licensing Division, handed over NGSO Operator License to Rebecca Slick Hunter, Director of Global Licensing and Market Aviation at Starlink. Dr Md Sohel Rana, Director of the Spectrum Division, presented the second license to her during the same event.
The entry of Starlink into Bangladeshi market is expected to significantly expand access to high-speed internet in remote and underserved areas, supporting the country’s broader goals for digital connectivity.
