An explosion happened on Tuesday in Aralia village, Baluakandi union, Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj while a bomb squad was trying to deactivate a mortar shell. The blast damaged several nearby houses.

Gazaria Police Station's Investigation Officer, Shahidul Islam, said the object was a cannon mortar shell.
The shell was found on Monday morning when workers were digging soil to build a small road on the land of a man named Hanif Miah in Aralia village.

Local people said the object came out from the ground while digging. At first, they didn't realize it was a bomb. Some thought it might be a golden statue or an old boundary marker. This led to many rumours, and people from nearby areas gathered to see it.

The shell was kept in the village for the whole day. Later, when people understood that it was actually an unexploded mortar shell, they informed the police.

Police quickly came to the spot, cleared the crowd, and secured the area to prevent any danger.

Later, a Bomb Disposal Unit arrived and tried to deactivate the shell. However, it exploded during the process, causing damage to several houses nearby.
