Hindu community leaders of Cumilla's Muradnagar on Tuesday blamed Local Government and Sport Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan's father Billal Hossain and his cousin Ubaidul Haque Siddique for repressing the Hindu people with the support of the followers of ousted Awami League.
Muradnagar Upazila Puja Udajapon Committee Vice President Prof Din Dayal Pal raised the allegations against the adviser and his family members at a press conference held in Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) auditorium.
Among others, community leaders Dulal Debnath, Nibash Chandra Ghosh, Biplob Kumar Saha, Ranjan Roy and Dayananda Thakur were also present.
In response to a query, Dulal Debnath said Cumilla's Muradnagar was a place of communal harmony. There was no communal conflict during the regime of BNP central vice chairman Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, also five time member of parliament from the area. But, the Awami League supporters have destroyed the houses and temples of Hindu people during last 16 years. They were also involved with extortion during the period.
The supporters of Awami League are still involved with similar activities with the support of adviser Asif's family members - his father and cousin. The adviser's family members have been trying to rehabilitate the ousted Awami League in the area, he said, demanding resignation of adviser Asif as they are trying to create division among the Hindu community people.
They praised Kazi Kaikobad for supporting the Hindu people since last 40 years in Muradnagar adding that when BNP leader Kaikobad was trying to restore discipline in the regions after the ouster of Awami League government a group of people linked with adviser Asif's father and his cousin have been trying to breaching the communal harmony.
