BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir warned party leaders and activists on Tuesday not to repeat the wrongdoings of the Awami League.

He said if BNP behaves like the previous ruling party, the people will also reject them.

Speaking at a mass campaign at Molani High School field in Thakurgaon's Chilarrang Union, Fakhrul said, "Our leaders must not act like Awami League leaders. If they do so, people will reject them."

He told senior BNP leaders from all districts to watch their team members closely and take action against anyone doing wrong.
"Take strong action or hand them over to the police if any BNP member is involved in bad activities. Otherwise, BNP will also be rejected by the people," he said.

Fakhrul spoke against what he called Sheikh Hasina's 'autocratic rule,' saying that many BNP members and innocent people suffered during her time in power. He said there were forced disappearances, fake cases, killings, looting, vote fraud and no freedom of speech.

He added, "Our leaders were kidnapped, millions faced false cases, and many couldn't live in their own homes. But we didn't run away. We fought the false cases in court, hired lawyers, and got bail."

Fakhrul questioned why Sheikh Hasina left the country if she was innocent.

"Why are you hiding? Why don't you come back and face the people and the courts?" he asked.

Fakhrul said he himself had faced 111 cases and had gone to jail 11 times under the Awami League. "Our leader Khaleda Zia spent six years in jail. People from almost every district were affected. But we stayed and faced the situation legally."

Fakhrul said some believe Hasina might come back, but he asked why she left? People will not spare her.

"She ruled for 15 years. Her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was well known. She had no reason to flee unless she was afraid. People were so angry that if they had caught her, they might have torn her apart."

Fakhrul said that if Hasina tries to return to politics, BNP will not need to stop her 'the people themselves will not spare her.'

He also criticized a former Awami League MP from his area, saying no development happened there because the people supported BNP. "Is it right for such people to be public representatives?" he asked. Finally, Fakhrul called on the people to unite. "Let's build a country with love and unity," he said.
