Twenty students from various universities across Bangladesh on Monday received Tk 1.95 lakh each as an honorarium for their research work under the Tissue Culture Laboratory Cum Horticulture Center Establishment and Development Project of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
These young researchers will develop methods for producing seedlings of 15 crops using innovative tissue culture technology. The improved, disease-free seedlings will be produced in laboratories and distributed to farmers, incorporating their practical experiences throughout the research process.
With support from the project, a new opportunity has emerged for a group of aspiring scientists from Dhaka University and other agricultural, science, and technology universities across the country.
The financial assistance was handed over at a ceremony held at the Agricultural Information Service Auditorium in Dhaka.
Md. Saiful Alam, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension, emphasized the importance of technological advancements in agriculture. "The future of our country's agriculture will be technology-driven. Tissue culture will bring revolutionary changes in agricultural knowledge, production, and market management. Through the efforts of young researchers, agriculture will gain new life and identity. By focusing on tissue culture and genetic engineering, we are opening new doors for the future of agriculture," he stated.
