The High Court on Monday disposed of a writ petition challenging legality of four sections of Supreme Court Judge Appointment Ordinance, 2025 with observations.
After concluding hearing on the petition, the HC bench comprising Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury disposed of the petition with observations.
The observations will be known after getting the full copy of the High Court verdict, lawyer concerned opined.
Advocate Zainul Abedin and Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir argued for the writ petitioner while Additional Attorney General Md Aneek R Haque represented the state during the hearing on the petition.
On February 26, Supreme Court lawyer Ajmol Hossain filed the petition with the HC challenging the legality of four sections of the ordinance.
He submitted the petition as public interest litigation saying that sections 3, 4, 6 and 9 of the ordinance are contradictory to the constitution.
Sections 3, 4, 6 and 9 deal with the establishment of the Supreme Judicial Appointment Council; functions of its secretary; powers and functions of the council; and recommendation for appointment of judges of the Appellate Division of the SC respectively.
