Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Md Abdur Rahman Khan said revenue collection is increasing even in bad time. He the growth is good even in such bad time and hopes it will get better in April.
He said it at a seminar titled 'Macroeconomic Perspective and Revenue System' at the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) Auditorium in Paltan in the capital on Tuesday.
Masrur Riaz, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Policy Exchange Bangladesh, a private research organization, presented the keynote speech at the seminar.
The NBR Chairman said the amount of direct taxes is very low; which can't be goal of a civilized country. If we want to become civilized, we have to increase direct tax collection.
We have reduced tax rate a lot to make the country investment-friendly. Since we cannot collect taxes from everyone, and since there is also tax evasion, whenever we want to take any action, compliant taxpayers complain.
He said we are giving notice to those who do not pay taxes. We are digitizing tax collection. We will collect corporate tax online from next year.
Regarding automation, he said, we have been able to fully automate bonds. We are trying to provide various facilities at the Central Bonded House. We are doing automation at the single window.
