Bashundhara Kings won its fourth title of the Federation Cup Football in a dramatic Federation Cup final that saw an extraordinary turn of events where the Bashundhara boys defended their title with a 5-3 victory in the tiebreaker against Abahani Limited at the Mymensingh District Stadium on Tuesday.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Kings held firm during the final 15 minutes of extra time and triumphed in the shootout, with goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Shrabon emerging as the hero. Abahani entered the closing stages of extra time as the favourites, with numerical superiority on the field and renewed energy. A comeback to reclaim the Federation Cup title after two seasons seemed within reach. However, they failed to capitalise on their advantage, as Bashundhara Kings, down to ten men, showed resilience and tactical discipline to deny them any goals.

The final 15 minutes of extra time saw Abahani pushing forward, yet they couldn't truly test Kings' goalkeeper Shrabon, who remained composed under pressure. With no goals scored in the additional period, the match moved to a penalty shootout where Kings asserted their dominance. Kings' penalty takers, Fernandez, Morsalin, Topu, Insaan and Dacyl, converted flawlessly, leaving Abahani's goalkeeper Mitul Marma helpless.

On the other end, although Rafael, Sabuz, and Mirajul found the net for Abahani, Nigerian striker Emeka Ogbugh failed to score from his second attempt. Shrabon had dived brilliantly to deny him.

This win marks Bashundhara Kings' fourth Federation Cup title. The match had initially been suspended last Tuesday due to a seasonal storm, which led to fading daylight and poor visibility. With the score locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes and one half of extra time completed, referee Sayeem Hasan, after consultations with both teams' captains and officials, halted the game due to insufficient lighting.

The resumed match concluded with one of the most memorable 15-minute periods in the history of Bangladeshi football, culminating in Bashundhara Kings lifting yet another trophy to main their dominance in domestic football.
