Bangladesh ended the second day of the Chattogram Test with a 64-run lead against Zimbabwe after scoring 291 for seven at the Birsreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium on Tuesday. A brilliant century from Sadman Islam laid the foundation for the hosts' innings before a late collapse pulled them back.

Zimbabwe had resumed the day on 227 for nine but could not add a single run to their overnight total. Taijul Islam struck with the first ball of the day to dismiss Blessing Muzarabani and finish with six wickets for 60 runs. Nayeem Hasan claimed two wickets and Tanjim Shakib took one as Zimbabwe were bundled out for 227 in their first innings.

In reply, Bangladesh openers Sadman Islam and Anamul Haque Bijoy gave the team a solid start with a century stand. The duo added 118 runs for the first wicket before Bijoy departed for 39. Sadman continued his dominance building another valuable 76-run partnership with Mominul Haque as Mominul contributed 33. Sadman went on to score a magnificent 120 off 181 balls, striking 16 boundaries and one six in what was the second Test century of his career.

Bangladesh went to tea comfortably placed at 205 for three, appearing set for a big first innings lead. But the last session brought an unexpected twist as Zimbabwe fought back with the ball. The Tigers lost four wickets in the final session for just 86 runs in 30 overs. Skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed for 23, while Zaker Ali could manage only five. Mushfiqur Rahim was run out after a fluent 40 off 59 balls and Nayeem Hasan added just three.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam managed to steady the innings towards stumps as Miraz remained unbeaten on 16 while Taijul was not out on five at the close of play.

For Zimbabwe, debutant leg-spinner Vincent Masekesa impressed with figures of three for 44. Muzarabani, Wellington Masakadza and Brian Bennett took a wicket each.

Earlier, Zimbabwe's first innings had been built around key contributions from Sean Williams who scored 67 and Nicholas Welch, who made 54 before retiring due to illness but returning later could add nothing.
