Workers of a garment factory have blocked a road demanding their due wages at Ashulia in Savar.
On Tuesday around 7:30 PM, several hundred agitated workers blocked DEPZ-Ashulia-Abdullahpur road at Narsinghpur area. As of 8 PM, the workers were still occupying the road, causing a severe traffic jam on the DEPZ-Ashulia-Abdullahpur route.
According to the workers, the factory was declared closed by the authorities on April 13. At that time, the management promised to pay the full salary for March and 10 days’ wages for April on Tuesday (April 29). However, when the workers came to the factory today, the authorities asked them to leave. In response, around 200 workers began a road blockade demanding their wages.
