Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, Shafiqur Rahman, has asked everyone to stay united for the good of the country, no matter which political party they support.
He said is it on Monday while speaking as the chief guest at a book launching programme at the National Press Club in Dhaka titled "Maulana Abdus Subhan Rahman: From the Grassroots to the Top."
At the event, Shafiqur Rahman said that if people forget party differences and work together to build a better and more caring Bangladesh, the country will move forward and succeed.
He said that Maulana Abdus Subhan was respected by people from all parties because of his strong and kind personality.
Shafiqur Rahman also said that even when Abdus Subhan was jailed by the Awami League government and waiting for the death penalty, he was never afraid. Even in prison, he cared about other prisoners and helped solve their problems.
He added, "To be a good leader, one must understand people, which we lack today. Maulana Subhan remained calm after hearing his death sentence. He didn't run away because he loved the country. Jamaat leaders have shown this."
At the event, BNP leader Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas said that the former government had wrongly accused Abdus Subhan of crimes to shame him. But now, that same Awami League government has itself been disgraced.
The book's author, Ali Ahmad Mabrur, also spoke at the event, along with Shamim Sayedee, Barrister Najib Momen, and others.
