The Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) has launched a Constitution Drafting Team comprising at least five members, tasked with producing a draft party constitution within one week.
During a gathering on Saturday at their temporary headquarters, party leaders unanimously approved the formation of two new governing bodies: a Political Council to make policy decisions and an Executive Council to implement them. Membership of the Executive Council will be reviewed after three months for potential renewal or expansion.
"We are establishing clearer governance structures to enhance our organisational effectiveness," said Convenor Nahid Islam, who presided over the meeting alongside Member-Secretary Akhter Hossen.
The NCP has also announced plans for a protest rally in Dhaka on 2 May, following decisions made at their fourth general meeting. Upcoming nationwide protest rallies will focus on demands for the trial of the Awami League as a political organisation, the cancellation of its registration, and the prohibition of its activities. The Dhaka Metropolitan Unit will lead the capital's demonstration on 2 May around these demands.
Central members attended the meeting, reflecting the growing nationwide support for this recently-formed opposition party.
