Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin said Pakistan-Bangladesh Business Forum will play an important role in strengthening bilateral trade relations and increasing economic cooperation.
He said this while speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of Pakistan-Bangladesh Business Forum at Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka on Monday.
Sheikh Bashir Uddin said it will serve as a platform to establish connections between business institutions and trade organizations of the two countries, expand trade and explore investment opportunities.
At the same time, he emphasized on increasing people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
The Commerce Advisor said despite the fact that Pakistan and Bangladesh are populous countries, trade between the two countries is not enough. Businessmen from both countries should come forward to achieve the desired trade goals.
He said, "In addition to discussing tariff and non-tariff barriers between the two countries, we should figure out how to rationalize them."
Later, to strengthen bilateral trade, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA).
BGMEA administrator and Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau Anwar Hossain and Vice Chairman of PRGMEA Amir Riaz Chotani signed the MoU.
Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Syed Ahmed Maruf, FBCCI Administrator Md. Hafizur Rahman and BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem were present in the event.
