Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - plunged on Monday due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.
DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, plunged by 42.7 points or 0.9% to settle at 4,953 points, as against 4,995 points in the previous trading session.
Market analysts observed that although the market opened on a slight positive note, selling spree soon emerged to fade the initial optimism and dragged down the market indices again to negative territory with bears regaining control of the market's momentum.
In contrary, market turnover increased by 34.0% to Taka 4.5 billion as against Taka 3.4 billion in the previous session.
On the sectoral front, Pharmaceutical (31.4%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Bank (11.0%) and Fuel & Power (8.9%) sectors.
All the sectors, except Jute (0.2%), ended in red, out of which Paper (-2.5%), Fuel & Power (-2.3%) and IT (-2.2%) exhibited the most negative returns on the bourse today.
However, the port city bourse, CSE, also witnessed a negative session today. �"BSS
