Police arrested individuals five people in connection with a clash between police and battery-run rickshaw pullers at Kaptai Road under Chandgaon police station in Chattogram city.
They were arrested in separate drives in different areas of the city on Monday.
The arrestees were identified as Md Shakil, 26, Md Morshed Alam, 27, Haradhan Dey, 55, Md Jewel, 30, and Md Salauddin, 25.
According to Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) traffic division sources, a total of 3,168 battery-operated rickshaws have been seized during drives conducted by the CMP traffic division till April 23 this month. Of these, the CMP Southern Division's traffic division seized 913, the North Division's 918, the West Division's 1,168 and the port division's 163 battery-operated rickshaws. These rickshaws are dumped at Mansurabad and Sadarghat of CMP.
Confirming the matter, Chandgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Aftab Uddin said five people were detained in connection with the clash between police and battery-run rickshaw pullers on Kaptai Road under Chandgaon Police Station on April 23.
He also said, A total of 56 rickshaw pullers have been arrested so far.
