National Legal Aid Day Observed In Districts

Thrust on ensuring human rights, justice to all

The National Legal Aid Day-2025 was observed on Monday across the country with a view to ensuring the rule of law, basic human rights, social equality, freedom and justice to all.

To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in different districts including Gaibandha, Kishoreganj, Narayanganj, Netrakona, Pabna, Pirojpur, Rajbari, Satkhira and Thakurgaon.

GAIBANDHA: On this occasion, District Legal Aid Committee organized different programmes in cooperation with FRIENDSHIP, a Bangladesh-based international Social Purpose Organization founded by international female personality Runa Khan.

In the morning around 10 am, a colorful rally was brought out from the premises of the District Judge Court here, and it ended at the same venue after parading the main streets of the town.

After the rally, a discussion meeting was also held with District and Sessions Judge and Chairperson of District Legal Aid Committee Md Rezaul Karim Sarker in the chair.

Judge of District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal here Iftekhar Bin Aziz, Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Maruf Hossain, District Legal Aid Officer and also Senior Assistant Judge Mst Jyothi Begum, and a beneficiary of FRIENDSHIP Shahida Khatun, among others, also addressed the function.

The speakers in their speech said that the government has been working relentlessly and tirelessly to establish the rule of law and human rights in the country.

District and Sessions Judge Rezaul Karim Sarker in his speech said that The 'Legal Aid Act, 2000' has been enacted to provide legal aid to litigants who are financially indigent, and unable to obtain justice due to various socio-economic reasons.

He also urged the poor and the distressed men of the society to receive the legal aid services free of cost to file cases with the courts and get fair justice from the institutional courts without any hassle.

District Legal Aid Officer Mst Jyothi Begum said, the district legal aid committee formed by the government has been playing significant role for few years last in ensuring getting fair justice of the distressed people of the district.

She also urged the concerned to be serious to make the legal aid services more popular to the people of grass root level in the district.

Besides, a number of stalls had also been set up on court premises k premises at the arrangement of the NGOs, which are working legal aid relating issues at the remote areas including hard to reach char areas of the district, said regional manager of FRIENDSHIP Nazmul Hossain.

At last, Shahida Khatun, a beneficiary, was given Tk 93,000 as alternative dispute resolution (ADR) at the initiative of the Friendship marking the Day.

Almost all judges, lawyers, social workers, NGO activists, public representatives and journalists attended the programme.

KISHOREGANJ: The National Legal Aid Day was observed with much enthusiasm in the district.

In this connection, a colourful rally was brought out from the District Judge Court premises in the morning, and it ended at the same place after parading the main streets of the town.

Kishoreganj Senior District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Nurul Amin Biplob led the rally.

Different government and non-government officials and students from various educational institutions took part in the rally.

Later on, a discussion meeting on the importance of legal aid to the people in general was held there.

The meeting was presided over by Senior District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Nurul Amin Biplob.

District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal- 2 Judge Maksuda Parvin, Chief Judicial Magistrate Al Mamun, Additional District and Sessions Judge Sabrina Ali, Additional District and Sessions Judge Shammi Hasina Parvin, Additional District and Sessions Judge Fathema Jahan Sarna, Additional District and Sessions Judge Sohag Ranjan Paul, District Magistrate Fouzia Khan, Additional Superintend of Police (ASP) Mahmudul Islam Talukder, District Bar Association President Advocate Sahidul Alam Shahid, its General Secretary (GS) Advocate Aminul Islam Ratan, Government Pleader Jalam Md Gous, Public Prosecutor (PP) Md Jalal Uddin, Special PP AM Sajjazul Hoque, Advocate Bhupendra Bhowmik Dolon, Freedom Fighter KM Mahbubul, Advocate Shahinur Koli Popy, and Beneficiary Mst Fathema Khatun, among others, also addressed the meeting.

Senior Assistant Judge and District Legal Aid Officer Nasima Talukder Monmon conducted the function.

Later on, the best panel lawyers were awarded.

 

 


NARAYANGANJ: In this connection, District Legal Aid Committee organized different programmes in the city.

A rally was brought out from Adalatpara area in the morning, and it ended on the District Judge Court premises after parading the main streets of the city.

Later on, a discussion meeting on the significance of the Day was held there.

District Legal Aid Committee Chairman and Senior District and Sessions Judge Md Abu Shamim Azad, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Jahidul Islam Mia, District Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr AFM Mashiur Rahman, PP Advocate Khorshed Alam Molla, and PP Advocate Abul Kalam Azad, among other, spoke at the meeting.

NETRAKONA: To mark the Day, District Legal Aid Committee organized different programmes in the town.
Senior District and Sessions Judge Md Hafizur Rahman inaugurated the Day's programme on the court premises at around 8 am.

After that, a rally was brought out from there, and it ended at the same place after parading the main streets of the town.

Later on, a discussion meeting was held there with Senior District and Sessions Court Judge Md Hafizur Rahman in the chair.

Senor District and Sessions Judge (Women and Children) AKM Emdadul Islam, Deputy Director of the DC office Ariful Islam Sarder, Chief Judicial Magistrate SM Rajibul Hasan, ASP Shaheb Ali Pathan, District Lawyers Association President Advocate Aminul Haque Khan Mukul, GP Advocate Mahfuzul Haque, PP Advocate Abul Hashem, District Lawyers' Association GS Advocate Masud Rana Chowdhury, Additional PP of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Md Nurul Kabir Rubel, Advocate Diluara Begum, and Netrakona Press Club GS Md Kibria Chowdhury Helim, among others, were also present at the programme.

Later on, a discussion meeting was held there with Senior District and Sessions Judge Md Enayet Kabir Sarkar in the chair.

Judge of District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Md Mizanur Rahman, Chief Judicial Magistrate Md. Kamal Hossain, and President of Pabna Press Club Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar, among others, also spoke at the meeting.

In his remarks, Senior District and Sessions Judge Md Enayet Kabir Sarkar said that the District Legal Aid Officer has currently been given extensive powers and jurisdiction under the law to provide legal advice to the people seeking justice and to resolve disputes through alternative methods.

Besides, Md Ayub Ali and Swapna Rani Sarkar were awarded certificates and crests as the best panel lawyers of the year for the year 2024.

Earlier, a Legal Aid fair was inaugurated on the premises of the Judge Court.

PIROJPUR: To mark the day, different programmes were organized in the district.

The Day's programme was inaugurated on Pirojpur Circuit House premises in the town in the morning.

Senior District and Sessions Court Judge Md Mozibur Rahman attended the function as the chief guest.

Pirojpur DC Mohammad Ashraful Alam Khan, ASP Md Abdul Awal and members of District Legal Aid committee were present.

A rally was then brought out from Pirojpur Circuit House premises, and it ended on the premises of the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court after parading the main streets of the town.

Later on, a discussion meeting was held there with Senior District and Sessions Court Judge Md Mozibur Rahman in the chair.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Alauddin, Additional District Sessions Judge Md Moktadir Alam, Additional District Magistrate Md Sakhwat Hossain, ASP Md Abdul Awal, Dr Md Arif Hossain, PP Abul Kalam Akon, President of District Lawyers' Association Saradar Faruk Ahmed, Government pleader (GP) Syed Sabbir Ahmed, GS of District Lawyers Association Ahsanul Kabir Badal, Special PP Nurul Islam Shahjahan Sardar, Panel lawyers Komal Krishna Mukherjee and Parvin Lubna Jahan, and beneficiaries Nazma Akter and Ali Akbar Khan, among others, also spoke on the occasion.

District Legal Aid Officer and Joint Judge Tariqul Islam conducted the programme.

Government officials, Legal Aid committee members, lawyers, judicial officers, and NGO workers took part in the programme.

RAJBARI: To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in the district.

A colourful rally was brought from the Judge Court premises in the morning, and it ended at the same place after parading the main streets of the town.

District and Sessions Judge Jannantul Lilifa Akhter Jahan led the rally.
After the rally, a discussion meeting was held there.

Judicial Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury, Additional Magistrate Uchhen Mey, District Bar Association President Advocate Khandaker Habibur Rahman, and Senior Lawyers Moslem Uddin and Advocate Abdur Razzak, among others, also spoke at that time.

SATKHIRA: Different programmes were organized in the district on the occasion of the Day.

The programmes included bringing out a colourful rally, arranging Legal Aid fair, medical camp, and holding a discussion.

A colourful rally was brought out from the District Judge Court premises at around 8 am and circled the important roads of the town.

Earlier, the guests inaugurated the programme by releasing balloons and festoons. In order to make the general public aware about government legal aid, a discussion meeting was also held in the town.

Satkhira DC Mostaq Ahmed was present as the chief guest while District Legal Aid Chairman and Senior District and Sessions Judge Md Nazrul Islam presided over the meeting.

Satkhira CS Dr Abdus Salam, Satkhira Judge Court PP Advocate Abdus Sattar, District Bar Association President Advocate Shah Alam and others were present at the time.

The speakers said, "Legal Aid provides legal assistance to the poor and helpless people. The rule of law cannot be ensured by leaving the marginalized population outside the protection of the law. We will work with everyone to establish the rule of law in Satkhira."

THAKURGAON: District Legal Aid Committee organized different programmes in the town in connection with observance of the Day.

District Legal Aid Committee Chairman and District and Sessions Judge Jamal Hossain inaugurated the Day's programme by cutting ribbon and releasing balloons in the morning.

After that, a colourful rally was brought from the District Judge Court premises and ended at the same place after parading the main streets of the town.

Later on, a discussion meeting was held there with District and Sessions Judge Jamal Hossain in the chair.

Thakurgaon DC Ishrat Farzana, Chief Judicial Magistrate Jalal Uddin, District Lawyers' Association President Joynal Abedin, and Legal Aid's Panel Lawyer Ashiqur Rahman Rizvi, among others, also spoke on the occasion.

Acting Legal Aid Officer and Thakurgaon Joint District Judge Lutfar Rahman moderated the function.

Almost all the judges, lawyers, administrative officers and journalists were also present there at that time.

Besides, Advocate Nurul Islam was awarded certificate crest as the best panel lawyer in the district this year.

A Legal Aid fair was also arranged on the District Judge Court premises.

A total of six stalls have been installed at the fair.

Apart from this, blood donation camp, free eye treatment campaign and cultural function were also arranged in the district marking the Day.
