Former International Crimes Tribunal Prosecutor Barrister Tureen Afroz has been shown arrested in a new case related to the anti-discrimination student movement in Dhaka.
Several other high-profile figures, including former CID DIG and Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Molla Nazrul Islam and Additional DIG Md. Mashiur Rahman, have also been shown arrested in separate cases.
On Monday (April 28), investigators produced the accused before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M.A. Azharul Islam and sought permission to officially record their arrests, which the court granted.
Tureen was shown arrested in a murder case filed with Mirpur Police Station.
According to case details, Parvez Hossain, 21, was killed by gunfire allegedly from police and ruling party activists during a quota reform protest at Mirpur-10 on August 4 last year. Tureen is listed as 8th accused in the case.
Tureen was previously detained on April 7 from a residence in Uttara and was placed on a four-day remand in an attempted murder case related to student leader Abdul Jabbar. She was sent to jail after the remand ended on April 12.
Meanwhile, Mollah Nazrul Islam was arrested on February 8, and Mashiur Rahman was arrested on September 19. Shah Alam Murad, former general secretary of Dhaka South Awami League, was arrested on April 17 in connection with another case filed at Dhanmondi Police Station.
