At least 10 people have died in lightning strikes across five districts in Bangladesh on Monday, amid thunderstorms and heavy rain.
Cumilla:
Four people, including two schoolboys, were killed in separate lightning incidents in Barura and Muradnagar upazilas. In Muradnagar, two farmers — Jewel Bhuiyan, 35, and Nikhil Debnath, 60, — died while harvesting paddy. In Barura, two sixth-grade students from Borohoripur High School — Fahad Hossain and Saimon Hossain — died while flying kites.
Kishoreganj:
Three people died in Austagram and Mithamain upazilas. Two farmers — Indrajit Das, 35, and Swadhin Mia, 14, — died while harvesting, and Fulessa Begum, 65, died while covering harvested paddy at her yard.
Sunamganj:
Rimon Talukder, 22, a second-year college student from Shalla College, died while grazing cattle near the Burigangal Haor in Shalla upazila.
Chandpur:
Bishka Rani Sarker, 45, died of a heart attack reportedly triggered by a loud lightning strike during a storm in Kachua upazila.
Netrakona:
Arafat Mia, 10, a madrasa student, was struck and killed by lightning early Monday in Madan upazila.
Local officials have confirmed the deaths and mentioned that financial support will be provided to the victims' families according to government policy.
