Mohammedan captain Towhid Hridoy will serve a four-match suspension, effective immediately after being found guilty of breaching players code of conduct, a press release of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said on Sunday.
The latest outcome meant he won't be able to play Mohammedan's crucial game against Abahani Limited in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) on Tuesday, a game which turned to be unofficial final.
The incident happened during Mohammedan's game against Gazi Group Cricketers in a DPL match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) on Saturday.
The charge of showing dissent at an umpire's decision during the match was brought by on-field umpires Moniruzzaman Tinku and Ali Arman Rajon, third umpire Muhammad Kamruzzaman, and fourth official ATM Ikram.
Hridoy denied the charge and opted to contest it at a full disciplinary hearing. However, despite prior communication, he failed to appear at the hearing scheduled in the umpires' dressing room, the release informed.
"In accordance with Clause 5.2.6 of the Code of Conduct for the DPDCL 2024- 25, Match Referee Akhtar Ahmad proceeded with the matter and imposed a sanction: a fine of Taka 10,000 and the addition of one demerit point," the press release said.
Hridoy was found guilty of committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the BCB Code of Conduct, which relates to "Showing Dissent at an Umpire's Decision during a Match." Level 1 offences carry a minimum sanction of a warning and a maximum penalty of Taka 40,000 and/or one or two demerit points.
This latest demerit point brings Hridoy's total to eight demerit points, including seven accumulated from previous breaches. As a result, he will serve a four (4)-match suspension, effective immediately, the release
concluded.
