The villagers have formed a human chain in Kurigram's Chilmari upazila on Sunday, demanding immediate release of seven fishermen detained in India.

Relatives of the detainees, along with various local professionals, participated in the protest organized by the Chilmari Journalists Forum.

The fishermen, five from Chilmari upazila and two from Roumari, were arrested by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on November 4, 2024, while fishing in the Jinjiram River near Rajibpur.
The human chain was presided over by Sawrat Hossain Sohel, President of the Chilmari Journalists Forum, with notable speeches from businessman Mahfuzur Rahman Manju, senior journalist Anwarul Islam Jewel, Forum General Secretary Jahangir Alam Saddam, and UP member Rukunuzzaman Swapan, among others.
