BNP acting Chairman and Chief Patron of 'Amra BNP Paribar' Tarique Rahman stood by the distressed family members of Lamia Akhter, who committed suicide after being raped in Patuakhali.

Lamia Akhter was the daughter of 2024 July uprising martyr Jasim Uddin, who was shot dead by police during the movement.
Led by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Chief Advisor of 'Amra BNP Paribar' Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, a delegation went to Naldoani village of Dakshin Pangasia Union of Dumki Upazila of Patuakhali this afternoon.

At this time, Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi conveyed the message of sympathy of the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman to the family of Lamia Akhter.

He also handed over financial assistance to Shaheed Jasim Uddin's elderly father Sobhan Hawlader (Lamia Akhter's grandfather).

The delegation included Atiqur Rahman Rumon, convener of 'Amra BNP Paribar' and member of BNP Media Cell, Engineer Mostafa-e Zaman Selim, advisor of 'Amra BNP Paribar' and member secretary of Krishibid Mokchedul Momin Mithun, permanent member of the Jatiya Press Club Zahidul Islam Rony and central organizing secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Md Amanullah Aman.

The delegation led by Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi joined the Namaz-e-Janaza of Lamia Akhter at the local school ground at 7:45 pm.

Later, the delegation visited the grave of her father and July uprising martyr Jasim Uddin.

On March 18 evening, Lamia Akhter was going to her grandmother's house at Pangasia Union under Dumki Upazila in Patuakhali after visiting her father's grave. She was gang raped by some miscreants on the way. Later, they took sensitive photos of her and intimidated the helpless girl over spreading those photos on social media platforms.

Frustrated Lamia Akhter was later found hanging from her rented house on Road No. 6, Shekhertek, in the capital Dhaka around 10.00 pm on April 26 last.

Later, she was taken to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where the on duty doctor declared her dead.
