Zonayed Saki calls for clarity on election timeline,  reforms

Chief Coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon Zonayed Saki stated on Sunday that the election timeline proposed by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus requires more clarity.

He made this remark following a meeting with the National Consensus Commission (NCC) at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building on Sunday morning.
Saki emphasised that if the national election is scheduled to take place after December, the reasons for this delay should be clearly explained.

He also noted that other advisers have expressed their preference not to extend the current timeline. "We believe this timeline should be more specific and decided through discussions with others. We hope they will consult their partners and agree on a final date for the election," Saki said.

He further suggested that a reform council or meeting is necessary to gather public opinion. While some have proposed constitutional reforms before or after the election, Saki argued that such changes cannot occur before the election, as constitutional amendments require approval through a newly elected parliament.

Saki explained that the interim government is limited to administrative tasks that do not involve constitutional changes. Any actions requiring constitutional amendments must be approved by the next elected parliament and government.

Addressing Article 70 of the constitution, Saki advocated for changes that would allow members of parliament to vote freely on most issues, except for the vote of confidence and the budget. He believes this reform would help balance power and make parliament more representative.

The Mass Solidarity Movement plans to engage with other political parties and groups to build consensus on key issues.

Executive Coordinator Abul Hasan Rubel highlighted that Article 70 has been amended previously, resulting in the President being unable to act without the Prime Minister's approval.

The movement seeks to empower the President with additional responsibilities, such as making certain appointments.

These proposals are still under discussion, with the ultimate goal of achieving a balance between the legislature, the government, and the judiciary.
