Interpol alert issued against Saima Wazed Putul

A Dhaka court on Sunday authorized the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice against Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in connection with alleged corruption involving the allocation of a 10-katha plot in Purbachal New Town.

Judge Md Zakir Hossain of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court approved the request after a plea was submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The ACC sought the international arrest warrant as Putul is currently residing abroad.
The development comes after the same court issued arrest warrants on April 10 against 18 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima, over allegations of fraudulent practices in the Purbachal land allocation process.

According to court proceedings, the investigating officer argued that securing an arrest warrant via Interpol was necessary due to Putul's absence from the country. The court accepted the petition and instructed authorities to proceed accordingly.

The corruption case was initially filed on January 12, 2025, by ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya. The charges involve claims of irregularities and favoritism in the distribution of prime plots in the Purbachal project, located in the northeastern part of Dhaka.

The case marks a significant escalation in the legal challenges facing members of the former ruling family and their close associates, as the anti-corruption drive gathers momentum under the current administration.
