Two people were killed by lightning strikes in separate incidents in two districts - Noakhali and Sylhet.
NOAKHALI: A day-labourer was killed after being struck by lightning in Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The incident took place in Ward No. 9 Jalial Village under Noakhali Municipality at around 11 am. The deceased was identified as Nurul Amin Kala, 42, son of Nur Ahmed, a resident of Ward No. 3 Salyaghataiya Village under Noakhali Sadar Union.
Local sources said that thunderbolt struck on Nurul Amin while he was cutting a tree at Dalal Bari in Jalial Village, which left him dead on the spot.
SYLHET: An expatriate was killed after being struck by lightning in Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Jibon Mia, 40, son of Shahjan Mia of Dalarpar Village in Dakshin Pantumai under Pashchim Jaflong Union of the upazila. He was a Dubai expatriate.
Quoting locals, Sub-Inspector of Gowainghat Police Station Utsab said that thunderbolt struck on Jibon when he went to a field to bring his cattle back to home after Asr prayers, which left him dead on the spot.
Jibon married off one of his daughters on Sunday and was scheduled to return to Dubai soon, locals said, adding that his sudden death cast a shadow of grief over the area.
