Police recovered two hand grenades from a government primary school in Gangni Upazila of Meherpur on Sunday morning.

The explosives, wrapped in red scotch tape, were found at around 9 am on the third-floor corridor of Raipur Government Primary School in the upazila, causing panic among teachers and students.

Being informed, police recovered the grenades and defused them by placing them in a bucket filled with water.

Fawzia Akter, head teacher of the school, said that students spotted the suspicious objects while going to their classrooms in the morning.

"We then informed the Elangi Police Camp and the bombs were promptly removed by the police," she added.

Officer-in-Charge of Gangni Police Station Bani Israel confirmed the matter, adding that investigations are going on in this regard.
