The government has decided to form two separate Public Service Commissions (PSCs), according to Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser on Youth and Sports to the Interim Government.
He made this announcement through a Facebook post at 4:19 PM on Sunday.
In his post, Asif Mahmud stated that a detailed discussion regarding this took place during the most recent Cabinet meeting. Following discussions about procedural delays and irregularities, the government decided to establish two PSCs.
He mentioned that soon after the movement began, he conveyed the students' demands to those in authority.
The Facebook post also mentioned that although there was an arrangement for a meeting with a team of protesters last Monday, regrettably, it could not take place. Nevertheless, the students' demands have been repeatedly forwarded by him to the concerned authorities.
The Adviser further wrote that to tackle unemployment, apart from the police, the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry has issued the highest number of recruitment notices among individual ministries, and the recruitment processes are ongoing.
He added that in the coming months, at least 10,000 more recruitments are expected. Asif clarified that he does not have the authority to make decisions or dictate matters regarding the PSC.
However, he assured that he has been doing everything within his capacity and will continue to do so, InshaAllah.
Asif Mahmud stated that no matter how many responsibilities he has, student issues always remain his first priority. He recalled that almost ten days before the movement at KUET (Khulna University of Engineering & Technology) reached its peak, a delegation from KUET had visited his residence.
He personally handed over their memorandum to the Education Adviser the very next day and kept track of the progress regularly, working to expedite the process of meeting the students' demands. He added that the absence of public posts on Facebook should not be interpreted as inaction.
He also mentioned that many of the students protesting at the TSC (Teacher-Student Centre) are personally known to him. He explained that he did not overthink whether it would be appropriate to visit them at 4 or 5 AM, but he had attempted to do so.
In addition, he went to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital to meet the family of Shaheed Jasim Bhai’s daughter following her tragic suicide. Finding hardly anyone present at 5 AM, he returned. He clarified that the news of the arrested individuals receiving bail is not true; they have been kept under CID custody, and the Ministry of Law will ensure exemplary punishment.
The Interim Government Adviser concluded by saying that after finishing his office duties, he would visit the brothers who are continuing their hunger strike at Raju Memorial Sculpture. He reminded everyone that the PSC is a constitutional, independent, and autonomous body.
He affirmed that the students' demands have already been communicated to the relevant authorities and that he would speak again with them regarding the matter.
