Police have arrested Harun-Ur-Rashid, the president of the Paurasava unit of the Awami League, from Mirzapur Bazar in connection with a violent attack that left a teenager permanently blinded.

Harun, son of the late Zamal Khan from Postkampuri village, was detained after evidence emerged linking him to the August 4, 2024, assault on the Gorai Highway Police Station, said Officer-in-Charge of Mirzapur Police Station Md. Mosharof Hossen.

The incident occurred during a demonstration organised by students and citizens under the banner of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Amid the protest, a group of miscreants launched an attack on the police station, during which Himel, a young boy, sustained injuries that caused him to lose his eyesight.

Following the attack, Himel's mother, Nasima Begum, filed a case. Police later identified Harun’s involvement through the investigation and proceeded to arrest him.
